Laser Cavitation vs HIFU: Which One Do You Actually Need?
8 June 2026
Two of the most-asked-about treatments at our Nairobi clinic — and the two most often confused. Here is the simple version.
Laser cavitation = fat
Cavitation uses ultrasound to rupture fat cells. Use it when you have stubborn fat pockets — belly, flanks, hips, thighs, upper arms — that exercise has not shifted.
HIFU = skin
HIFU uses focused ultrasound to stimulate collagen deep in the skin. Use it when skin is loose — post-pregnancy belly, post-weight-loss arms, jowls, fine lines on the face.
When you need both
- Postpartum belly with both soft fat and loose skin
- Significant weight loss leaving fat pockets and lax skin
- Mid-30s onward where fat redistribution comes with skin changes
Which goes first?
Cavitation first to reduce volume, then HIFU to retract the skin around the new shape. Doing HIFU before fat reduction often wastes the tightening.
